Watch out! You won't be out alone tonight

by Allie on October 31, 2008

So, trick-or-treaters……..tonight you will not be alone when you are walking outside!  If you look to the west, as the sun sets, you will see Venus.

Far to the left (south) and higher in the sky, you will also be able to see Jupiter.
And never fear, tonight will not be the blackest of nights, after all!  As the sky darkens, you will be able to see Antares, a bright star, located just to the right of the moon.
Lastly, watch for a phenomenon call “earthshine” (or twice-reflected sunlight).  It’s when part of the sun’s light bounces off of Earth and dimly lights up the dark portion of the moon.  Pretty cool, huh?
