QUICK! SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT! Plant a Bush Back in Texas

by Allie on November 20, 2008

As if he hasn’t already done enough, President George W. Bush is working furiously to dismantle at least 10  major environmental protections for our wildlife, national parks and rivers.

With only 60 days left til we get Obama to lead us (YAYY!!!), Bush is trying to weaken or reverse rulings that hold logging and mining operations and factory farms to some level of responsibility to clean up after themselves.  If Bush succeeds in making these changes before Obama takes office, it will be more difficult for Obama to undo any damage we see courtesy of W.
Bush’s latest move this week?  Opening up 800,000 hectares of Rocky Mountain land for the development of oil shale, one of the dirtiest fuels on earth.
He allowed factory farms to disregard rules for the Clean Water Act earlier this month, he is allowing power plants to be set up closer to national parks and reducing their pollution controls, allowing the dumping of mine waste into our waterways, and approving mining and logging operations without consulting wildlife managers as to their impact.
Not only is he doing all of this, but he is taking a steamroller to the Endangered Species Act, by eliminating the scientific review process.  Check out Jeff’s post on Bush’s attempt to butcher the ESA over at Science Says.
We all know it, but now if has been announced that the Presidency of George W. Bush is a failure.  If you go over to The Conservation Report, you can see a video of international leaders opting to not even shake Bush’s hand at the G20 Summit.  It would almost be sad….if it wasn’t the man who has made so many backward moves in our environmental sector.

Thanks for the shout-out, Allie!

This seems to get more urgent every day, and all we can do is wait.
