St. Maarten: Underwater

by Allie on February 26, 2009

Here’s the first batch of photos from St. Maarten, from my snorkel session off of Dawn Beach on Day #1.

Can you find the barracuda?

Pretty!

I was wrong. They're not cuttlefish, they're Caribbean reef squid.

Amazingly beautiful pictures :-) Makes me think about how much of these wonders will be there to see for the generation of our children and grandchildren…

Nice to see you did an effort to take great underwater pictures, but I would say off Dawn Beach is not a place to see great stuff. Goto Grand Case and snorkel around ‘The Rock’ or goto Little Bay at Divi resort and go on the rocks, those are must-dive-spots.

I so wish I were you. I haven’t snorkeled since honeymoon in Jamaica in 2004.

Yet snorkeling is probably the coolest thing Ive ever done.

I wish you had been there lol. I really don’t like snorkeling alone, it creeps me out.

All the guidebooks praised Dawn Beach as some of the best snorkeling on the island. Either way, it was a bit too rough to go to a lot of the snorkeling spots when I was there, and the visibility at Friar’s Beach was AWFUL! Hopefully if I ever go back, there will be some nice weather for snorkeling.
