Disneynature has selected the African Wildlife Foundation to be the beneficiary of their upcoming film African Cats. If you see the film during its opening week (April 22-28, 2011), a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to protect the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor, a passage between the Amboseli, Tsavo West, and Chyulu National Parks that is frequently used by lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and a host of other animals in the African savanna.

I don’t know about y’all but I am DEFINITELY going to see this movie!  Africa?  Big cats? Money going to one of my favorite organizations helping conservation in Africa? I’M THERE!  Now who’s coming with me?

Remember how I told you guys about the cute little pint-sized pigeons I saw in St. Maarten?  Well, I never saw them again so I didn’t get a chance to take my own photos, but after some internet research, I found out what they are and learned that I was pretty close.

Pigeons and doves are both in the family called Columbidae, and these guys are common ground doves. I wasn’t far off about them being able to fit in the palm of your hand. At 6-7 inches with an 11 inch wingspan, and weighing only 28-40 grams, it is one of the world’s smallest pigeons.
